This is Mary Jane Turner Terry born Sept. 19, 1855 in
Montgomery Co., VA. Based on obituaries and oral history she grew up near Mt. Pilot. Her husband John Hardin Terry born Nov. 22, 1849 also grew up in the same
area. They both lived on opposite sides of the Mountain and did not meet until after the Civil War. Like most Virginians, they were devastated by the war and
the Terry family started to move to Montgomery Co., IN. Some of the Turner family followed and moved further west.
I was able to contact a distant cousin who had this picture of Mary Jane Turner at age 18. I made a copy and gave as a gift to my Mother last year. She was touched. She has many fond memories of Mary.
